Dévorait art vidéo
Mathieu Doyon and Simon Rivest founded Doyon-Rivest in Quebec City in 2000. Their practice extends well beyond their training in visual art and graphic design. Their work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Canada and abroad. The duo live and work in Montreal.
Thier videos present absurd choreographies by dancers doing and undoing anagrams along to kitsch music. These works each explore an unusual anagram. The choice of words which are deciphered are very important: the first set is from vocabulary of widespread success that is ad nauseam in society (awesome-dominate) and the next presents more of a counterpart (unequal-asleep). For the viewer, it is about a simple reflection on the weight of words and their role in our collectivity (in school, work, and in life in general). The ludic aspect of the work grants a lightness in the ensemble that underscores their apparent banality.
