Video Pistoletto
Artist's biography
Born in Los Angeles, based in London (UK) between 1999 and 2010, Oli Sorenson lives and works in Montreal since 2010. His artistic activities led him to exhibit at the Millenium Museum (Beijing), Institute Media art (Amsterdam), ZKM (Karlsruhe) and FILE (Sao Paulo). He also performed as a VJ at festivals including ISEA (Helsinki and Nagoya), Mapping Festival (Geneva) and MAF (Bangkok).
Project Statement
Inspired from the live works of Italian artist Michelangelo Pistoletto consisting of breaking large mirrors, Sorenson revisited the traditions of Arte Povera under the materials of new technology. From this point, Sorenson challenges art’s generative principles by creating work from the destruction of its components. Video Pistoletto presents a paradoxical action forged in the same relentless flight of obsolescence and waste as our current media feeding frenzy.
